Benjamin Britten at the Colon Theatre.

Teatro ColónFrom September 23rd to October 1st, the Colon Theatre will be showing the absolutely wonderful non-liturgical War Requiem mass composed by Benjamin Britten mainly in 1961.

It is a monumental work for two orchestras, organ, two chorus, soprano, tenor and baritone soloists.

The War Requiem was commissioned to mark the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral that was destroyed during World War II. It is interesting to notice the huge emotional charge that the War Requiem has since Britten endured a great suffering throughout the war. The composer escaped to the USA when the bombing of London started and he had to come back and join the army for he could not bear the fact that his fellow English citizens were suffering the pain of the war while he was safe in the other shore of the Atlantic.

Palo Santo Hotel considers that this mise-en-scène that the Colón Theatre is presenting is excellent in every aspect. If you are in Buenos Aires these days, you should see it.
